The Boston Irish Festival takes place annually and was originally known as “Irish Connections”—a traditional/roots and contemporary music and Irish cultural festival. The Irish Cultural Centre of New England hosts the festival in Canton, Massachusetts—only 25 minutes south of Boston.
2007 marked a re-launch and re-design of the Festival to reflect the new cultural directions of Ireland and its Diaspora. After centuries of economic difficulty and emigration, Ireland, in these early years of the 21st century, finds itself one of the most prosperous countries in the world, socially forward-thinking and increasingly diverse. This festival will celebrate the old and the new, traditional and contemporary, classic with avant-garde, how music is enjoyed in Ireland and how it is enjoyed throughout the world in the Irish style—friendly, welcoming, adventurous and spirited.

A studio workshop with Barry Van Dusen in partnership with Mass Audubon Blue Hills Trailside Museum and The Visual Arts Center, This full-day indoor workshop will focus on BIRDS, and the methods artists use to depict them with drawing tools and paint. At the Trailside Museum, we will have access to LIVE BIRD MODELS - a rare opportunity Well start with some basic drawing exercises, followed by a discussion of avian structure and anatomy - exploring ways of seeing, understanding and interpreting the birds form. Through follow-along drawing demos, well explore the variety of birdlife, with lots of practical drawing tips. Barry will also describe his field methods and demonstrate how he uses optics to work from live birds in the field. After working on our basic drawing skills, and doing some drawings from photographs, well tackle drawing the live bird models at Trailside.
